Don’t buy from the Mint. They sell it to you at a higher price than what it’s worth. Get the ATB 5 oz coins from Ebay, Amazon, or your local coin shop.

Ouch!). I have since bought directly from the mint. What I found while acquiring the first several years was tons of coins which had to be returned for toning issues. I chalked this up to poor handling by the previous owners. All the coins I have acquired from the mint since 2015 have gone directly into airtite capsules the day they arrive. The capsules then go in a display box which has silica packs in them. The common thing I notice is on the reverse sides of many of these coins, whether purchased in the aftermarket or direct from the mint, is that they “want” to try and tone along the rim edge of the coin. But not on the obverse side where Washington is. Always on the reverse side where the national park is depicted. So the question I have is it unavoidable that these coins will all eventually tone even in airtite capsules.

I just had to obtain another Denali 5 oz ($290) and Great Basin ($180) because both coins were starting to tone. I know for a fact the previous Denali coin was purchased in an SP69 coin holder and moved directly into an airtite.

Not sure yet if I will hold the two toning coins just to see where they go, but my concern is if there is something in the manufacturing of these coins which means toning will be inevitable. Thoughts?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Can you do better ? Maybe you should submit your renditions so we can all take potshots at them.
