G, i did not know there was a pole taken on last years coin for all the coin collectors, what was the total outcome of the nay & yea vote? May i ask where does it say ”ugly rendition of Liberty that is mocked as the First Lady Mrs. Obama*, first & only time i ever read it was last year from Gray, i must have missed all the mocking going on about the *First Lady*, pretty sad to think that.

Gary Lomax – you are correct that the new “social justice warrior/politically correct” version of liberty in the 225th Anniversary coin is ugly and it has been deemed a failure as few collectors like it. However, I disagree that the concept of “Liberty” is a European value. One of the reasons I liked the old version of the Platinum Eagle is because it has the Statute of Liberty, which in my mind is race-neutral. On that note, I am very disappointed with the design of the new Platinum Eagle. The only silver lining is that there is virtually no temptation to buy it, thereby freeing up space in my wallet. By the way – I have the entire series starting in 1997 and have purchased a Platinum Eagle each year until this year.

Awesome coin, I wll get the whole series.. Much better than the horribly ugly rendition of Liberty that is mocked as “Lady Obama”. The concept of Liberty is a European value that comes from European civilization, not Africa. To display Lady Liberty as anything but European is racist and bigoted. Pure cultural misappropriation. It would be like having a film where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is played by Matthew McConaughey.

Yeah, the changing designs on the proof platinum was what made me collect the Preamble series though it was crimping my wallet …. nice designs there and I wanted to complete one series just once .. no regrets that I bought them from the Mint … now I’m “downsizing” drastically and the Preamble are among the last to go .. had to get them TPG’d .. was thinking of keeping ’em for another few years, till 2020 .. but such is life .. basically only one thing left to buy before I totally shut down all my purchases (minor as it is since end 2014) . the Moon Landing … really too bad the Mint had to mess up with things like discontinuing the NA $! C&C sets .. and stuffing the 2016 ASE into the RR C&C set for no reason other than to increase sales of the ASE …would have been nice to have had a silver medal that was unique to the Presidential C&C set .

Like you, I love platinum coins, but I too think the Lady Liberty wearing an ancient Greek toga is getting very old, tired & trite as a coin design by the U.S. Mint. I do think overall, however, the Platinum American Eagle coins have the best overall designs as a series in general. I guess I will continue with the series since I got hooked in 1997 when they were first issued & I just can’t seem to quit the series! I just wish we could see a full-length Lady Liberty in a modern designer gown or pantsuit or skirt.

Interesting design. Cant wait to see the next installments. I have noticed that most major world mints have been hording platinum and releasing some beautiful designs lately. No wonder palladium has jumped to an all time high. Palladium is a by product of platinum refining, the more platinum on the market means more palladium on the market. Sadly palladium has no long term protection and the automotive industry like any other industry will use the cheapest precious metal for their manufacturing and that will soon be platinum again, pushing palladium out the door. Wish I would have jumped on the palladium wagon back in the day lol the time to sell is now, before it tanks…and it will. Just my opinion. Happy collecting my friends.

Got to say, I love plat coins, but the imagery just feels a little weird to me. Modern fonts and a mother in a toga just doesn’t marry well.

Don’t know if I will buy it. If I do, I wont be looking at it much. Maybe its one of those ones where you need to see the final thing to appreciate it. I hope so.
