Today, Aug. 9, marks the official release date for the U.S. Mint’s 2022-S Proof American Silver Eagle. However, don’t expect a big rush of orders for the San Francisco Mint-struck collectible at its noon ET launch as the entire inventory of 200,000 coins has already been accounted for through the U.S. Mint’s pre-order enrollment program.
That being said, some may still have a chance to purchase one according to the U.S. Mint:
"Customers may still have an opportunity to purchase the products, subject to availability, after enrollment orders are reconciled," the U.S. Mint said a statement. "All inventory resulting from cancellations, invalid and/or fraudulent orders will be made available to the general public via "Remind Me" messages."
This news should not be much of a surprise as the related West Point Mint-struck 2022-W Proof Silver Eagle saw enrollments gobble them up earlier this year despite a much higher product limit of 500,000.
American Silver Eagle Designs
Appearing on the obverse (heads side) of each new proof Silver Eagle is a design familiar to most coin collectors — the Adolph A. Weinman full-length figure of Liberty. The design depicts Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the American Flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left.
This image first appeared on the 1916-1947 half-dollars and re-appeared on the inaugural 1986 American Silver Eagles. However, the Mint refreshed the design last year utilizing new technology and historical assets to more closely reflect Weinman’s original intent.
Obverse inscriptions read: "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2022."
Along with that obverse refresh, the reverse (tails side) design was completely replaced last year. That new image continues this year with an eagle shown as it prepares to land while carrying an oak branch.
The design is the work of United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Emily Damstra with United States Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso sculpting. Reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
Anti-counterfeiting measures in the form of a reeded edge variation also started last year and continuing with this release.

Price and Ordering
Priced at $73, those hoping to snag a 2022-S Proof American Silver Eagle can try using the U.S. Mint’s online page dedicated to American Eagle coins.
Here we go. I’m sharpening the elbows and getting ready for the high noon showdown.
Good luck, REB. Are there even going to be any available for order at noon? When do they do the reconciliation of orders?
Hi Major D,
I see you answered my question in your reply to REB. And I now realized you already answered my question yesterday in another comment. Sorry about that.
That’s somewhat comforting. We shall see. Now that I’m enrolled for 2023, hopefully I’ll never again know the pain and heartbreak of Liberty walking out on me.
Got it. I’m happy.
Congratulations. I see they shipped mine on the 9th or 10th (email arrived at 1230AM Aug 10th). One thing that was different for me this time is the amount of emails I got from the Mint about my order. Usually, I get one saying to verify my payment details. Then I get one saying they are getting ready to process my order. I think after that I then have gotten one saying my order is progress, and then the final one saying my order has been shipped. This time I only got the one saying to verify and the one… Read more »
That’s what I received also in regard to Mint emails, Jeff Legan, and today my two absolutely gorgeous 2022-S Proof ASEs arrived “in person”. Hallelujah!
Just received my shipping notice from the Mint. That was quick! There just isn’t demand for S ASEs as there are for W ASEs.
I prefer the San Francisco ASE Proofs to those from West Point, Antonio.
Individualism strikes again. 🙂
Curious to what the final mintage will be.
Thank you. A bit deceiving when stating 200,000. There should be a disclaimer saying this excludes bulk sales.
Major D and Rooster,
Those Bulk 40 sales sure do make a mess of the count, don’t they?
Lower than the W ASE.
Major D,
Possibly this will be a well kept secret until just before the release of the LESPS.
Thanks Major D! I had not seen this till now. This could be an update to a previous write up. Guess my bet is now on the S mint for this.
For what its worth, at 11:45am ET, 15 minutes before launch, data available = 40,890. So those without enrollment orders should be able to place their online order with little fanfare.
Wow! That was quick! I have my Confirmation and it took me less that 30 seconds to make my purchase. We have to keep in mind, these are S ASEs and they aren’t as popular as the Ws.
I like them all. I see by the numbers what the preference is. I agree with you about the S-Proof. When the Ws were a “novelty”, they were interesting to have but now since they’re a regular issue, they’re just another mint mark. We need something new, like an O or CC. We know that’s not going to happen. Maybe even a C, they could reopen a facility in Charlotte. :-))
Antonio, with the Space Force in action, maybe an M for the Moon Base Mint.
I just received my shipped email from the mint. That was quick.
Everything went zip a dee zip with this Release; how awesome is that!
Just ordered 2. Was super fast!
Ditto, Victor, and from what I’ve seen reported here that was the case for everyone!
well, since the bots/scalpers became bored after the stupidity around the Morgan’s last year, it hasn’t been a problem on launch day. that said, the subscription enrolments opened up on 6th July 2022, which I was able to join. Yesterday I got this email: Dear Valued Customer, On August 2, we sent you an email regarding an Advanced Shipment Notification for a 2022 American Eagle Product. This email was sent in error and we apologize for any confusion it may have caused. Customers enrolling in the American Eagles program after July 7, 2022 will not receive a 2022 American Eagle Product.… Read more »
Daniel —
Possibly because of the Mint sending notes like yours, I ordered another one about a minute into it … and was immediately confirmed. I just don’t trust the Mint to be as concerned about my orders as me ….
Hope all works out for you.
— Mike
PS As of 12:07 there are 26602 left
Major —
Good insightful question! But I had only ordered one on the enrollment process, so with one additional I was still below the limit of 3. But I am curious if that is a crack in their armor.
— Mike
PS Now down to 21644 at 12:21
Mike,
I once signed up by Enrollment for two of a coin which had a HOL of 3. Upon the coin’s Release Day I tried to order two more of it just to cover all my bases. The Mint’s system subtracted the one that put me over the 3 HOL and sold me a single coin that day. When my Enrollment went through after all I ended up with three of that coin.
I’m signed up for three enrollments. One for one silver eagle and the other two for three each, for a total of seven my first is already shipped and the other two that have three each are currently still processing it looks like the only way you can get more than the household limit is to have here enrollment at the number that you want even if it’s an excess of the household limit. I’ve set up all my enrollments for the number items that I want at the beginning of each year and at that point I have no… Read more »
That is both very interesting and somewhat intriguing to be made aware of, JWP. It seems that when one is doing business with the US Mint nothing is quite as simple as it might at first appear to be.
I think that even if you succeed, they will cancel the order later. During one of the frenzies where the mint kept booting me out of my in-process order, apparently one of them actually completed, which I did not realize. I kept trying until I got an on-screen actual confirmation. Hours later I found I had two good order confirmation emails for a product with a HOL of 1. They cancelled one of the orders. I cannot remember if it was cancelled later that same day or the next.
Technically, Major D and Jeff Legan, we only imagineth that the Mint ever giveth over the HOL. Just sayin’.
Give me my ASEs or give me….nevermind. You know what I mean.
Antonio,
A hale and hearty cheer to those of us collectors currently in the mood for waxing poetic…or cars, whichever comes first.
P.S. Wax on, wax off.
Wax one each. I’m a collector and I collect. What do we say to the god of coins? Just one today, thank you.
Except for the ubiquitous flippers, Antonio, whose own particular litany will forever remain, “Thank you sir, I’ll have another.”
I tried to update the number of ASE’s available using the source code (thanks Daniel) and it went to a 404 page. Maybe to much activity right now. This will sellout way before 24 hours. I have 5 in my subscriptions, but only 3 shipped as shown in my emails. Although all 5 were processing.
I have 6 subscriptions for 2 each. 3 are shipped and 3 are processing.
Thanks Rooster. I was wondering if the 3 household limit applied to subscriptions as well.
Exactly Major, much like a inverse function or logarithmic curve.
I get a good chuckle out of the fact, Rich, that while I’ve always managed to sail through the arts and humanities, when it comes to math anything even slightly advanced sounds like technical lingo from Star Trek.
Another fake “Sold Out Via Enrollments” scam by the US Mint – The US Mint Scandal deepens. All data from the US Mint is fake and unreliable –
Still available
Hi SENZA,
thanks for your helpful contribution to the discussion.
Hey Jeff,
Spin on this; I know your Mom loves to and it’s a Silver Fork just to keep it coin-relevant
Q-What is denser than SENZA? A- nothing in the known universe.
Speaking of moms, yours has my sympathy.
She doesn’t have mine, Jeff. It now sorely plagues this planet.
Senza,
I have to laugh at all these posts counting down to a quick sellout like that’s going to make these over-priced coins worth more. They are making at least 250,000 of these including the coins slated for the Silver Set, and probably more…that is unless you believe everything the government tells you. Personally, I cancelled my enrollment for this one. I just don’t need it.
I use it to help determine demand because i am not really sure what i am doing. if it is a 10 minute sellout for something not in an enrollment vs the American Liberty One Ounce 225th Anniversary Gold Coin West Point (W) from 2017 that is still available for example. or how coins in a series sell and which coins go faster. also HOL as a determinate. so how fast this one went with 3 vs the same coin from (W) that i think had a 1 coin limit. luckily i got 1 and also the congratulations coin that… Read more »
Don’t ever buy a coin from Mike Mezack, it’s a losing proposition…for you. That V75 AGE would’ve been a real winner for you.Don’t be disappointed or get discouraged,,,we have all missed out on some coins that the mint offered. I missed out on the CC Morgans last year, but was able to get all the rest.
With silver spot at $20, I’m not paying the mint $53 to produce a coin. I already have a ton of them ‘previous years’ in my safe.So it’s not a need…or a want!
Hi Larry,
this was a great post! It covered a lot of ground and the info was 100% useful to a newbie. And the tone, uplifting and encouraging. If there was an award here for the post with the most nutritional value per bite, I would vote to give it to you today. I wish your buddy could do posts like this.
Jeff Legan and Larry,
Allow me to add my two thumbs up to both Larry’s comment and to what Jeff Legan said about it!
Exactly, there is no mintage limit and since we have been addressing the eagle-is-an-eagle scenario more people have realized it doesn’t make sense to pay $73 for an ounce of US Mint Silver and today’s outcome proves us correct.
Also, they were supposed to be sold out via enrollments – yet here we are staring at thousands of unsold
Yes, I canceled mine too, and last year my (S) had obverse die chatter but it was just lousy workmanship and it wasn’t even worthy of an error classification.
If you’ve already canceled any order from the mint, then why are you complaining to everybody else about this issue. Seems like you’re upset at something but you also appear to be yelling at everybody on this site. Maybe you need to take a chill pill. Just seems kind of strange that the people that don’t want to buy from the mint and have canceled their orders are the ones that complain the most and the loudest.
Thanks for helping out, JWP.
JWP,
Your confusion is understandable as you’ve just happened to come across an extremely disgruntled individual. In the history of this site he hasn’t appeared to ever be happy or positive about anything. As our resident grouch so to speak, this particular Oscar is never cheerful.
The only unreliable scam here is Senseless faking its humanity.
hi all, new to the board, but have been following for years. Mike Hunt loves Major D. that is too funny, no offense to you two. Thank you for all the wonderful posting and info. I was able to see availability earlier, at around 12;19 it cannot be found. I ordered 2 and am tempted to buy a 3rd, but not sure how great of an investment it is. I have bought many coins and sets and other products. most of which are still in the original brown box it was shipped in. does that make a difference when trying… Read more »
Dazed, they are doing an Army 2.5 oz medal next year along with a Space Force medal.
I didn’t see any news about a release next year, but i think i search the 2019 20 21 and 22 product schedules and saw the other services had coins or medals but not the army,. marines, CG, Navy and AF (funny, because now af means something different to the youth) all had coins released at least this year or last. it is what it is i guess. thanks for the post
D & C — Fascinating comments. The only “love” I have are for the coins (and process of getting them) in a hobby/avocation I have enjoyed for almost 70 years. And that IS a passion. My responses to Major have really only been recently. But I really enjoy Kaiser’s insights and often outside-the-nine-dot postings that make me rethink some of mine. I guess I can understand your comment but there really is no bromance involved or implied. But who knows? Maybe Major or Kaiser will respond otherwise, but I doubt it. And I certainly hope not. A delightful new take on the original Dazed and Confused, Rich, one I am more than happy to get on board with.
By the way, I believe the combined concerted efforts of staunch site members like you are at long last effecting a substantial turning of the tide here toward a much more friendly, co-operative, informed and above all coin-oriented community. Many thanks for that!
Hi Dazed and Coinfused, (clever name, by the way). I can not answer most of your questions, but I will give my opinion on your coins in their original brown boxes. I have some myself (only because I ran out of room in my coin cabinet. I think they are better protected in their brown boxes for now). I know other collectibles (like Magic the Gathering) put a premium on unopened boxes that contain multiple packs inside of them. For those, the premium comes from not knowing what is inside the smaller packs inside. That is not the case here.… Read more »
thanks for reply, very helpful info. i never did pokemon or magic, but i know about the 87 basketball or the jordan rookie or 89 upper deck for the griffy jr card. but lot of sets, boxes, cases from that era are cheap. i remember getting some from kmart (nobody ever thought to go there during the boom) and sit there for hours searching the rack packs for premium cards on the face or back, or trying to move the cards to see what else was in pack without messing up any cards. i was under the impression that ngc… Read more »
You might be able to find out what is in your unmarked ones by looking up the tracking number on the USPS website to see when they show it delivered. Just do not trust the date as gospel. They have shown some of mine in the not too distant past as delivered that I did not actually receive until some days later. I think that was because the Postmaster wanted to make his on-time delivery numbers look better. He was getting a lot of flack at the time. The date would still narrow down considerably the amount of emails you… Read more »
Hmmm. Maybe I will start purposely leaving most of mine in their boxes. Some I must open to check for damage, like the recent uncirculated set. One thing I have done is write on the package the date the box was delivered and the 3 digit mint product code. The date on the package helps me find the email quickly. And even if I somehow lose the emails, with the 3 digit code written on the box, I will still know what is in the package after a quick product search on the mint website.
My problem is I have two large safes full, now I’ve got boxes everywhere. This is in my study from over a year ago, and by no means is the only room where I have unopened boxes stored. They take up so much room.
Ive got so much more now (thanks Morgan’s), and it’s getting out of hand
Whoops
Well, that is a good point, Daniel. I already have two stacks of them sitting on the floor. And I worry about getting them tarnished, so I cannot just store them anywhere. I actually have a feeling the boxes help protect them from tarnish. I have no idea if that is really true, though.
All you’re missing are Canadian. There’s some good ones.
The RCM does produce some very snazzy looking coins, Antonio. My only problem is that picking some of those up for my collection would put a bit of a dent in my coin-targeted financial assets. After all, one can’t expect to have everything.
Daniel,
I would much rather walk into a supermarket and be able to say “there’s so much food here I don’t know what to choose” rather than enter one and have to remark “there’s nothing at all in here, whatever will I eat”.
Just something I contemplate whenever I feel slightly overwhelmed by the cup running over.
i think i started around 2016. that was when i was finally able to invest in myself and could diversify my portfolios. one thing the military taught me was redundancy. so if stock crash, gold will help absorb the blow, or can sell my house or other avenues to move money. i know gold is a vehicle to preserve wealth, not get rich. i am not looking to sell anything any time soon, my buys are purely speculative, i have no idea what the collectors or flippers want, and in 15 20 or 30 years from now no telling what… Read more »
If I can buy these sets at 60% or less than what the lowest price retailer sells at, I’m speculating I can at least break even in the future.
How does that work. Everything I see is usually spot plus premium.
One part of your comment, Major D, stood out especially for me since I’ve been giving that a lot of thought of late, and that is the question of whether or not silver can actually be considered to fall into the precious metal category. My take on that at this point in time with silver’s price sitting where it currently does is that in all honesty it cannot; there are simply far too many multiple of value between silver and even the very lowest priced of the precious metals, that one being platinum. To be fair, however, there is also… Read more »

“… the entire inventory of 200,000 coins has already been accounted for through the U.S. Mint’s pre-order enrollment program.”
False!!! There were over 24,000 available after I placed my order at noon today. As of 2:15PM there are still over 11,000 available.
I received an email from the Mint August 2nd, in part informing me the following.
Due to overwhelming demand, the full production inventory for the 2022 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof (S) Coin (22EM) was previously accounted for through enrollments. However, as a result of cancellations, inventory may become available on the scheduled launch date of August 9, 2022.
Customers may still have an opportunity to purchase the products, subject to availability, after enrollment orders are reconciled. All inventory resulting from cancellations, invalid and/or fraudulent orders will be made available to the general public via “Remind Me” messages.
I guess some people are making the decision to fill up their cars gas tank instead of paying $73 for an ounce of silver. As they say ‘elections have consequences’ and ours is high inflation, a recession, and flippers can’t make money anymore on regular mint coins.
Hi Larry,
The inflation is coming down, the jury is still out on a recession, and if flippers cannot make money anymore, to me that is a positive. I am sure without flippers, many items would be cheaper for collectors.
Who needs flippers? I remember when flipper meant something else. They call him Flipper, Flipper…..
Jeff,
Yes, but there is conflicting data as far as a recession is concerned. For example, the unemployment rate. Lower than what, 4 decades. Lowest ever? Something like that. All the recessions in my life went with a high unemployment rate. Plus, you may have noticed there are a lot of world wide pressures going on right now, far more than usual that effect everyone that are adding to this. Is the current president doing such a bad job? Best way to tell is to compare to the other countries around the world. Last I saw on that, there were like… Read more »

If you had an incomplete order sitting there for 4 hours, I would imagine it timed out. I do not usually get a confirmation email until around 4 hours later. I would guess you did not get it, but I would not guarantee I am correct.

You do realize we’re on EDT and not EST right???? It is not sold out. Maybe being D&C is your problem.
Even if this ASE-S sellouts today, it will be back on sale soon enough. Lots of hiccups will happen with the ordering process and dealers etc. will be sending the coins back to the mint if not 70’s.
Hi Paul, I am sorry I have to bring up this up, but we are having a problem here with SENZA throwing insults at whoever dares to question or disagree with him (or feels wronged by in his own mind, it appears). Your post was fine and informational until the last sentence. Can you do me a favor and leave any personal insults (any insults?) out of your posts? It is a sensitive time here right now. Absolutely true. As the defanging of Senseless proceeds, more and more participants here realize he is all bark and no bite whatsoever. Thank you, REB. It is heartening to know I am not alone in my effort to get us all back to a better place. Almost everyone is supportive among those who have not been uninterested or reluctant or afraid to speak up.
So far, Larry is the first person to defend SENZA and it has been 9 days since it all started. Your response is more factual than mine. Mine is more emotional. I have a lot of general knowledge, but not a lot of expertise in anything (of use, anyway). Great response! Thanks for helping.
You’re welcome but (isn’t there always a “but”) I think the way to rid yourself of obnoxious posters is to not engage them (i.e., “ignore them”). My experience online is that most trolls are looking for attention, ANY kind of attention. If they get it, it’s a win for them. If they’re ignored, they go somewhere else for attention. I’ve seen good and bad posts on here from a variety of people. For some here I’d probably spring for lunch or dinner for the good conversation; others I’d likely avoid like the plague. But the focus on a coin site… Read more »

It’s not surprising that a typical twerp like you would rush to the aid of your idiotic wacko twin; after all, the poor maniac isn’t dealing well with being called to account . Since you obviously give off the same scent of cowardly braggadocio, senza’s jaunt into insanity is too much for you not to follow. An identical joy in perpetual bullying makes you two ideal hate buddies and clearly indicates your total lack of any awareness of what it takes and means to be a real man. Go away, little bugger.
Take it easy on Larry, Kaiser Wilhelm. We do not know he is irredeemable yet. I think there is hope. To him, this kind of talk has been normal for a while now. For as long as SENZA was tormenting you, I would not try to stop you from insulting him for a whole year now after he stops the insults (not that I ever expect him to at this point), and he would be getting off extremely lightly.

27 months of people wanting to take me out, not going to let anyone run me off. I tend to stay off social media, too many angry people that pee on their balls that act tough behind a keyboard. Everyone pretending to be something they aren’t. Seems most posts on here are political, or low blows, or people bragging their safe is crammed with gold and silver and platinum. When in reality, more like a personal handgun safe. Most likely won’t be posting here anymore, seems all social media does is bring out the evil in everyone. But that is… Read more »
Well, they were. It appears the worst of it is over. I am sure there will still be some backsliding. I am still expecting a future appearance from the worst offender (SENZA), I just do not know when. I also have a nice supply of lead, and steel. Thanks for stopping by, Dazed and Coinfused. I hope you find reason to visit again in the future. Now that it appears calmer here, I myself hope to be able to go back to less posting and more observing than I have been doing for the last few weeks. Take care.
Someone posted it was sold out. I just happened to check a few minutes later. Showed about 7500 left. Since no order received email, and no error message, it went from submit to home page, I wasn’t sure what happened. EST is eastern standard time. I’ve heard of EDT eastern daylight time, but always used EST.
1,030 left at 11:45 pm EST. Should be gone by 10am EST. Then the rejects come out in a few days.
Good call. I see why you have the handle Guru.
Thanks. Just a lucky guess based on the speed of the coins being sold last night.
All I can say is I’m a happy camper. I have the 2022 proof W ASE, uncirculated W ASE and will soon have the S proof ASE. The coming years will prove if it’s a good investment or not.
Also have the silver proof AWQ, proof and uncirculated sets. I was mainly interested in the native American dollar for this year and wanted the different mints of it. I’m finished for the year and look forward to next year with the promise of more Morgan and Peace dollars.
Antonio,
The happiest camper is one who doesn’t make the big mistake of setting up his tent in a hungry grizzly bear’s territory. Other than that, congratulations on your beautiful new acquisitions!
No longer available.
Got 15 of them through my subscription call me crazy for buying so many of them but it is better then spending money on booze cigarettes and drugs in my opinion !
Nice! Love these enrollments.
Hope it pays off. If the final value settles at double the Mint price, you did quite well for yourself.
Antonio I never buy coins to resell and never will I have so many of my friends tell me I am crazy to buy so many coins.I have been collecting coins for a very long time and I would say 90% of the coins I have purchased I could make a huge profit the other 10% I could sell what I paid for them.
Mike Petraitis,
When I think of in comparison all the cash that so many people (myself included) foolishly poured into the bogus timeshare scheme, then I can only believe the money that went to coins instead was exceedingly well spent.
Kids, wife, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, etc., etc. 🙂
Antonio,
And don’t forget that extremely efficient call center outside of Mumbai.
You are allowed up to 25 with enrollments. I backed off to 12 for this coin.
Very astute move indeed, Rooster. Or to paraphrase one of my own old watchwords, you can buy all the coins you want or you can maintain a roof over your head, but you can’t guarantee you’ll always be able to do both.
Major D,
I was under that impression also. Will wonders – or in this case perhaps more accurately described, enlightenments – never cease!
I have a subscription for 15 of the silver dollars .
A big triple Amen to that, brother Mike! ODAAT.
Thank you for this information Major D. Only time will tell where the price settles at.
I bought 3 of them. Something enticing about that “S” mintmark. This morning I had an email from Pinehurst wanting to buy my 2022-S Proof Silver Eagle. So there is demand out there, even with 50,000 more coming with the Limited Edition silver sets later this year.
John: I believe the silver eagle in the limited edition set is from the W mint.
In the past all the coins in the limited edition silver proof set were S mint. Last year they had a D & S mint ASE’s due to the change in design. Maybe they are doing the D mint ASE this year. I haven’t seen any news on this set recently.
For 2022 the 5 silver quarters, dime, and the half are from the S mint. The silver eagle is from the W mint.
This was from Coinworld.
https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/limited-edition-proof-silver-set-scheduled-for-50-000-units
That will make the S ASE the lowest mintage of the 2022 ASEs.
Would that depend on the number of S dealer trays they sell? But curious to see how all the numbers play out once the dust settles.
My guess is the uncirculated W will probably come in lower. It would be nice though to see the S proof lower. The bulks will decide.
Interesting!!! Thanks Rooster. I wonder why they decided to break with tradition and go with the W?
Your welcome EC Guru. This was a good read from back in March. The mint never ceases to surprise.
You mean a W and an S mint mark. When is the last time there’s been a D mint mark on a precious metal proof coin? The 1984 gold Olympic coin?
The first Limited Edition Silver Proof Set (LESPS) in 2012 contained the 2012-W Proof ASE. The 2013 – 2016 LESPS also contained the W mint Proof ASE (Note, there was no 2015 LESPS). Then in 2017 the Mint switched to the S mint Proof ASE, with the 2017 – 2021 LESPS all having the S mint Proof ASE (Note the 2021 LESPS also contained a second Proof ASE, the 2021-W Type 1). It looks like the 2022 LESPS will have the 2022-S Proof ASE.
Rich: Some articles have been wrong before. This set including the S mint silver eagle I have only seen here in comments.
Hi Rooster,
I think that is because if you blinked, you missed it. I tried to buy it and failed. The first time ever. I just looked at my email from the Mint about it, I got it on Oct 5, 2017.
Was this 2017 set limited to 2? I did order 2 myself but have 6 sets.
Just confirmed it was a 2 set limit.
Uhh, I think am not talking about the same thing as you guys. Sorry. I saw the 2017 in the data Rich has and assumed.
Lol but you had me guessing. It’s all fun.
Hahaha, Thanks!
Thanks Rich. Great research. I just went back to 2017 and assumed the prior ones to that year were the same with an S ASE.
Good Sir Rich,
The 2021 LESPS with the Two Different Eagles is my favorite to date by far. As Borat would say, “Verry Naice!
How much did they offer to buy them from you?
The Mint lost me. I quit after too many shutouts. I could have gotten this in the start, but I think the Mint cured me of coinitius. Also, I don’t care for the Eaglelanding on a stick in the sky reverse. Last, I have refused to buy the bullion Ed. w/the APs & others getting $15 an Oz. over spot, refuse THEIR $10 profit collusion
I just about threw in the towel when it seemed the Mint was catering to flippers, bots and speculators. This year has gone MUCH smoother on purchase days. I haven’t had to use Ebay for a single coin in 2022. Now battling over every shipping charge after the first three purchases has been infuriating but I suppose you can’t have sunny skies all the time.
As I’ve mentioned before, REB, that’s a not uncommon glitch that should disappear the following calendar year.
Wow, Victor Brenner, III,
You seem to have struck out at every single time at bat; sorry to hear that. As they say, it was (hopefully) fun while it lasted.
I signed in a little past 12:00 and was able to place an order for two coin; then went right thru payment, shipping, verification. The easiest time I’ve ever had ordering the $1 silver coins (Eagles & Morgans)
pfk,
Super! That’s the kind of ordering news we want to hear!
Had some eagles land today. They all would grade 70. So far, so good.
Congrats, coin brother! The Mint gods have chosen to smile upon you!
Got mine yesterday. I’m not a trained and/or practiced grader by any means, but just from eyeballing my two I would have to say they are flawless as best as I can tell.
Still waiting for my enrollment coins. They are awaiting delivery to the shipper since 8/9/22 and today is 8/15. Hope that I see my 2 coins
Richard J Margolis,
Don’t give up hope yet; you’re still well within the current delivery window.
Just received my coin. Packaging and COA for “S” but sent me “W” coin
The S is on the reverse. The obverse has Adolf Weinman initials.
Thanks, Rooster. See my post below, as I too was initially confused after reading DJS’s comment.
Rooster is correct. The back seems a strange place for the mint mark. When I looked at my coin, I noticed mine has 7 small scratches (some closer to a dot) in parallel just above the eagle’s head (is that what is called “chatter”?). This ASE might be in the worst condition I have ever gotten from the mint. I do not look at mine on arrival as regularly as I used to so this type of thing could have been going on for a while now. There was a time where I was always impressed with how pristine ever… Read more »
DJS, thanks for posting this important notice. I’m in the same boat; the COA says “S” mint mark and the packaging sleeve has UPC bare code on the label on the bottom of the sleeve saying item number 22EM (for 2022 S mint proof). Buyer Beware!
Oops! Just for clarification, DJS et. al., you and I initially confused the “W” on the obverse of the coin, which stands for the initial of the last name of Adolf A Weinman, with the mint mark. On the reverse of the coin you should see the “S” mint mark under the eagle’s wing. So thankfully, we did receive the correct coins after all.
That “W” initial being mistaken for the Mint Mark is a very common error, DJS.
I got one of my two coins with a string of machine marks above “E Pluribus Unum”. Little dagger-shaped marks about 1/16″ with the patern of approximately 12 marks getting progressively smaller. Does that make the coin more or less valuable? Thanks.
I’m pretty angry – just received mine with a huge scratch, with trailing dots on the reverse by the eagle’s head. Just called to send it back. Does the mint have any quality control???
MKacz and Jed,
First of all, please understand that my point in writing this is not to come to the defense of the Mint’s particular interpretation of Quality Control. What I do know after having worked in both the fresh and preserved fruit wholesale distribution business and the home repair and improvement manufacturing industry for thirty-two years is that no amount of Quality Control attention and/or inspection is able to catch every single rotten banana or hardened caulking cartridge. Unfortunately, perfection is not in the picture.
Hi Kaiser,
Fair enough. I’ve only had two issues with the QA from the mint, but they both happened this week. First the S ASE, but there was a huge red mark across the face of the 2017 Liberty 1 Oz. gold coin. The two hits in one week got me.
Hello MKacz, I can’t blame you for being extremely upset about those two defective coins, especially considering the amount of money you paid for them, especially the gold coin. This appears to be a case of when it rains it pours; you got hit with some of the worst possible damage all at once after possibly years of having good luck with your Mint purchases. A big scratch on the Silver and a red stripe on the Gold are incidents beyond the pale, and you’re smart to get these back to the Mint ASAP. I hope you get your money… Read more »
Is the 2022 proof from San Francisco with two different mint marks a mistake? Seen coins like 1981 proof with same mint and two different mint mark like small s and large s.
Mike Hogge,
There is only one mint mark, the “S”. The “W” is the initial of the coin’s designer.
I had no problem ordering these at noon, In fact, I originally ordered one and then went back for two more.
Congrats, John L.
You are clearly a fan of the old saying urging one to “Make hay while the sun shines”.
Is anyone else getting 2022-S eagles with corrosion spots on the back? I just received the 6 that I ordered and 2 of them had multiple black spots of corrosion on the back (0.5-2mm in diameter). I’m going to see if the the mint can replace them but I was wondering if anyone else is seeing the same. 1/3 of my order would tell me that it is fairly widespread or happened to a bunch all at once and I just happened to get mine from that bunch.
