New centennial silver dollars and American Silver Eagles sold out quickly when they launched last week, and U.S. Mint sales figures have their totals exceptionally close to their limits.
Pre-orders for the Philadelphia-minted 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars kicked off on Aug. 10 at $85 apiece. Available for less than 30 minutes, sales show the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar at 199,989 out of the possible 200,000 and the 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar at 174,977 out of the possible 175,000.
Both are making money in the secondary market with Peace dollars going for about 2x their issue price and Morgan dollars generally selling from about 1.6x to 1.9x their issue price.
The 2021-S Proof American Eagle, Type 2, launched on Aug. 12 for $73 and sold out in about 10 minutes. Mint stats show the individual coin (product code 21EMN) now at 198,596 and the 40-coin bulk option (product code 21EMN040) at 383 units for 15,320 coins. Combined, the Mint has sold 213,916 coins, which includes 13,986 sold a week earlier through the Mint’s Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP) which allows qualifying bulk purchasers to buy numismatic products prior to their official on-sale date.
Ungraded examples of the Type 2 2021-S Proof American Eagle are selling in the secondary market from about $140 to $160.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 297 numismatic products. Fifty-two of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 71 previously. Not counting the new products so as to compare apples to apples, 5 products increased by more than 1,000 units against 3 in the previous report.
In addition, 11 products saw their sales reduced compared to 10 previously. The reductions ranged from 2 to 1,671 with the latter tagged to the John Tyler Presidential Silver Medal.

I think the mint is doing better this year in terms of variety and lower mintage limits. I do think the upcoming 2 coin revers set mintage limit of 125,000 is to high.
Imo, blink & it’ll be gone. I’ll give the ol college try, but I have 0 confidence in bagging it.

I don’t think it’s going to be gone in a blink. With a HHL of one coin, I think we will have at least 25-30 minutes to secure one. It will be popular, but with 125,000 sets to go around, I feel optimistic about securing one!
Kaiser, I can promise you that I don’t do anything at a leisurely pace, especially when it comes to ordering coins I want. I’ll be on the site at high noon ready to click, click, click away. My point is since the HHL is 1 with 125k coins that’s going to give me a better chance at it vs 175k coins (Morgan’s) available with a HHL of 3. With the exception of the most recent Morgan & Peace release (which I got thru in about 3 mins, but still with roadblocks), every coin I’ve gone after this yr involves logging in at noon & hammering away @checkout for 20-25 mins +/-. Victor and Kaiser Wilhelm, The mint is at it again. Please note the sales for the Type 2 proof AU eagles. They all seem to be over their stated mintage limits (be sure to include the 4 set to the quarter oz total).Also add the 2 coin tenth oz set to its total. Sir Kaiser and Chuck, this is super crazy as to the Mint grossly exceeding their stated product limits and mintage limits for the 2021-W Proof Gold American Eagle Type 2 coins. It has effectively diminished the future potential value for these coins compared to the initial buyer’s expectations based on the Mint’s published product/mintage limits. IMO this sly action taken by the Mint is unacceptable and inexcusable. Lets be honest. These special eagle sets are for die hard collectors of which there are less every day. Right? I’m a silver coins collector and an investor, I think many of us fall in this category. So why not for the Mint, to occasionally offer special finish silver eagles at low mintage? Kind of like WW2 Anniversary ASE?

I am sure glad I’ve kept the 1966 Pontiac LeMans that I paid $1,200 for in 1994. It may not be pristine, as it has never been restored, but no matter how much I drive and dirty this car – it’s value continues to increase.
Do the math and review the mint’s stated 2021 Morgan/Peace mintage limits. It appears that for the CC Morgans, they said 175,000 was the mintage limit, but total listed sales are 171,283, leaving 3717 unsold (or maybe unmade). The same applies to the O Morgan with 171,759/3241 unsold. The S and D Morgan sales are within about 20 units unsold and the (P) Morgan and (P) Peace are about 10 units shy of a limit of 175,000 & 200,000. Going back to the 2019-S Rev PR ASE fiasco of 30,000 mintage limit/29,707+97 sold/196 unaccounted for. This appears to be pattern… Read more »

Kaiser — I somehow missed the gold Mercury Dime that was issued a few years ago. But I put in a “remind me” if it ever came available and kept my fingers crossed. I did so because when I called the Mint, the rep told me that for all sorts of reasons the number sold on Day 1 almost always declines. Anyone hear why the Mint moved the release date for the 2 coin reverse proof set to Sept. 13th? Was looking on the mint site and noticed it has been changed. Are they “FIXING” their website again so we have 10 page not found notices instead of 20?

Received mine yesterday. Looks like it’s a PF68, maybe. The box it came in wasn’t impressive but then again, I don’t buy them for the boxes. I may have it slabbed at some point. My W is still in Backlog. Only sorry I missed the 1986 reverse W. Well, I believe they sold out in 3 minutes.
I have tried to purchase coins through the US Mint numerous times over the internet (probably 30) in the past 3 years and have never been successful. I have only been successful when the release item was over $300.00.
Let’s face it. Unless you are one of the big dogs with ways to fool the bot screening process, or if by a miracles’ chance the system doesn’t crash during check-out, the average Joe is never going to get a coin period!
The only way to truly ensure a fair system for all, is to delay by a week, after the release of an item, the mintage limit, product limit, and household limit of that particular item.
I just got my first Morgan, a Denver Mint-marked thing of beauty. I’ve never seen such an imperfection-free Morgan Dollar with such crisp features.
