There is a third option, Roger, which is to produce the Silver Proof Set with the clad cent and nickel replaced by silver versions.

Dazed and Coinfused, “clad” coins are the same as “base metal” coins.

There are two Proof sets. The silver proof set which contains silver versions of the dime, quarter, and half and the clad proof set which contains the clad versions of those coins.

I wish the Mint would produce the silver proof set with only the silver coins instead of getting duplicates of the non silver coins when buying both.

What is a proof clad set? You just mean the set with all the quarters and dime and nickel and Sacagawea and Kennedy in plastic? Or is it like a special coating. Like all coins after 1964 they weren’t silver but considered clad.

While I’m sure you’re right about the larger resellers jumping on the bandwagon here thanks to the opportunities presented by these enhanced HOLs, I think those same folk must realize that their eventual sales totals and profit numbers will be somewhat lower than they had previously gotten accustomed to due to the Mint making it easier for its own retail customer base to be taken care of “beforehand” by way of subscriptions.

A very good and reasonable policy, Roger, and one I prefer to adhere to myself.

Same for me. I only buy the Mint sets necessary to extend my existing collection of coins.
