It looks like this will be a good year. Sales are higher than last year. Unfortunately, it’ll keep the prices down. Oh well, there’s always next year.
Antonio, I completely understand what you’re saying. That being said, this situation does present us with a bit of an inherent conundrum. When Mint sales figures are lower and consequently each of the products ends up smaller in number their individual prices may well be higher on the resale market. Conversely, when Mint sales figures are higher and each of the products ends up larger in number their individual prices may well be lower on the resale market. However, larger Mint sales demonstrate more overall interest in the products, so the resulting secondary market sales may in fact on occasion… Read more »
Hurry I want that Mankiller on my tree!!!!!! Yikes!!!!! right next to my “BAT” quarters!!!!!! RUN FORREST RUN!!!!!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hello there sam I am tweedy,
I’ve come to realize that your exceedingly witty expositions resemble a rather unique marriage of the styles of e.e. cummings and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Most excellent!
The BAT quarters. What a laugh. Quick Robin! To the Bat Mobile!
Antonio,
We can still be grateful that we do have an actual bat on our quarters rather than the likes of Batman and Robin on those bizarre Pacific Island coins.
Major D, for that I must refer you to all those tiny islands with the quirky coinage.
A couple of points regarding this week’s Mint Sales Report…
Whether or not this pattern will continue, the AWQ Ornaments did get a quick start out of the gate, one good enough to put them all in the top seven of this past week’s sales.
Interestingly, while individually-sold 2022-S Proof ASEs experienced a sales reduction of 404 units, the Bulk-40 2022-S Proof ASEs achieved a sales increase of 1,222.
I just collect coins, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.
Antonio, I thought you were only here for the comments.
Good Sir Rich, with that one little gem you succeeded brilliantly in taking my estimation of your comedic proficiency up yet another level!
How accurate are they? At the end of the day, I got mine, what do I care about the mintage.
Major D and Antonio,
At the end of the day you are both right when we look at this from each of your viewpoints. If value is a prime concern, Major D, then I can see why mintages would be so important to you. On the other hand, if the collection is not built for sale then you, Antonio, are also correct.
Besides, as the final option we can always agree to disagree.
I’m on the Antonio side of this debate. I’m a collector, not a dealer. I’ll likely never liquidate my collection. Whoever inherits it will get the benefit of my collecting wisdom and/or the curse of my collecting stupidity. Either way, it will be a windfall for them; so, I guess they can’t complain too much.
REB,
In response to your final sentiment, I would say that if your heirs did register any sort of objections or complaints whatsoever regarding any aspect of receiving that generous bequest from you, they would then be guilty of one of the most impolite acts known to mankind, to wit “looking the [proverbial] gift horse in the mouth.”
Antonio, it’s good that you’re here no matter what the reason.
Major D, I have gathered several issues here that I believe to be worthy of comment. For example, why would the 10% Mint limit for Bulk-40 purchases not be applied across the board? And even worse, why wouldn’t the Mint be even more strict about this in cases where the individual coins are subject to a Product Limit? I also have no idea how the Mint thought it could sell the idea that making (apparently substantial at that) additional numismatic sales via the Bulk-40 program would ever be interpreted as a benefit for the coin buying public. By the way,… Read more »
A major tip of my hat to you, Major D; you have clearly found the chink in the armor of my previous and now clearly shown to be erroneous contention. You are in point of fact absolutely correct when you say that the Mint’s Authorized Bullion Purchasers and the Mint’s Authorized Bulk-40 Buyers can in fact be one and the same, contrary to what I had been claiming was indeed the case. It’s no wonder with all that going for them those dealers can so easily corner the market!
…and here it is in the “flesh”…
Yes Major, when it comes to the Proof (and Uncirculated) ASEs, especially this year, beware the Bulk 40s. Since the Bulk 40 ASEs are a separate item apart from the individual ASEs, their mintage and product limits are unknown and driven by demand from authorized bulk purchasers. Regarding the the Mint’s new Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP) which was established last year, not all Mint products will be offered through this program, and no more than 10% of products with limited quantities will be distributed under this program. As you noted, the 2022-S and 2022-W Proof and Uncirculated (Burnished) ASEs… Read more »
I totally agree. Since the Mint announced and established this new ABPP in March 2021, the shenanigans we saw this year will probably be in affect from here on out.
Good Sir Rich and Major D,
The game that the Mint is so very adept at playing does indeed seem to go on and on with no change of any substance to speak of ever taking place. Rather, its typical and standard “These Are Not The Coins You’re Looking For” style of well-rehearsed grifting skills enables the Mint to continue to carry the day.
Major D and Good Sir Rich,
It seems the Mint has now managed to teach us a valuable lesson about the difference between “Product Limits” and “Mintage Limits”, which is that this distinction is clearly a very consequential one.
Question…..In bulk orders does 1 number advancement or decline = 40 coins or is it in 40=40?
Domenic Vaiasicca,
The Bulk-40 order counting system is such that every one (1) Bulk-40 unit represents forty (40) coins. For example, last week’s increase of 1,222 units of the 2022-S Proof ASE Bulk-40 Program is the equivalent of 48,880 individual coins.
