Today, Oct. 26, the United States Mint releases its premium 2022 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. One of the year’s most anticipated annual products for collectors, the set is priced at $201.
Limited to 50,000, this collection includes eight different coins all struck at the U.S. Mint facility in San Francisco from 99.9% pure silver for a total of 2.473 troy ounces.
"This limited edition set is a must-have for any collector or to mark that special occasion," promotes the U.S. Mint’s product page for the set. "There’s something for everyone in this sparkling set coming in at almost 2.5 troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver."
All coins feature the U.S. Mint’s proof finish noted for its mirror-like backgrounds and frosted foregrounds. Each polished blank planchet is struck multiple times using specially designed dies to create the collector grade finish.
Found within the set are the following eight silver coins:
- 2022-S American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin
- 2022-S Kennedy Half Dollar
- 2022-S Maya Angelou Quarter
- 2022-S Dr. Sally Ride Quarter
- 2022-S Wilma Mankiller Quarter
- 2022-S Nina Otero-Warren Quarter
- 2022-S Anna May Wong Quarter
- 2022-S Roosevelt Dime
The set’s quarters feature one-year-only designs as they are a part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters™ Program — a four-year series that celebrates trailblazing women with five unique coin designs annually.
Coins of the set are encased in presentation lenses to showcase and preserve their finish. The set is also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Ordering
The 2022 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set may be ordered beginning at Noon EDT via the Mint’s products page dedicated to annual sets.
Orders are limited to one per household for the first 24 hours of sales.
Need to grab a couple of these for the kids. Yesterday I struck out on the quarters, should have subscribed…
Subscriptions are doubtless the watchword for acquiring Mint products of the especially in demand variety these days, FViia, and as such are highly recommended.
Hard pass.
I know why I will be passing on this one but can you share with others why a “Hard pass” for you?
Read my comment with dazed and coinfused. You?
Pretty much the same including your comment to Chris Terp, “Waiting for next year as well”.
It appears now, Christo, that for whoever hadn’t previously signed up for a subscription to any one or more of the American Silver Eagle varieties for 2023 it is already too late, as all of the enrollments but the Uncirculated one are taken. What a crazy situation, eh?
Ditto here, Rooster. Since I already have all these 2022 coins a couple of times over, I see no need to fork over a bunch of extra bucks for a different container.
Same here.
Understandable, REB, as there is nothing new in this set worth acquiring.
Yep, I am with you Rooster and Kaiser. Just waiting for next year’s items. Maybe pick up a medal or commemorative half dollars for Christmas gifts?
Yes, Chris, I’ve finished this year’s Mint buys and am all set for a big New Year.
Yep Kaiser & Rooster looking forward to the Peace, Morgan’s, Navy Silver medal as well as the ASEs in 2023. Sure there will be others too but you close out 2022 for me too.
May I add the intrigue of the American liberty gold and silver medal? Possibly in 1/10 oz as well. Depending on the design of course.
https://www.coinnews.net/2022/02/15/2023-american-liberty-gold-coin-and-silver-medal-candidate-designs-unveiled/
I was looking forward to next year’s ASEs but as of last night both Proof varieties were sold out and the Uncirculated was likely just barely hanging on as far as availability via subscription. It was the insane 25 coin HOL and did the damage, I’m sure; there’s no way to overcome those odds what with all those greedy flippers in the game.
I thought you were a subscriber?
Waiting for next year as well.
Should be an interesting one with all those Morgan and Peace varieties.
And that’s already been torpedoed by the Mint’s HOL of 25 for the ASEs.
All we need now for next year, Rooster, is for the Mint to run out of silver planchets for the Morgan and Peace Dollars again. What a way to run a railroad.
Me too! The only ones I don’t have from this set are the dime and half. Saved myself money and effort.
I take it then, Antonio, that you didn’t get the Mint’s Annual Silver Proof Set?
Why hard pass? Haven’t seen many comments on this set. I know they sold out fast last year
D & C: I say hard pass because I had a new grand this year. Don’t see anything unique about this other than the coins are in a nice package.
The Mint dangles the lure of the special packaging but up close it’s not that great.
Point blank answer is that I can spend the money on this or save it for the gift giving of Christmas; my choice is simply to opt for the latter. One can’t have everything.
Hard pass too. I have all these coins already only difference is the packaging….which doesnt make it special. Its also extremely over priced for what is. NOW ….if they had thrown in silver proof versions of the nickel and penny…….i would change my tune on this set, but as is its just a repackaging of coins already purchased this year.
That would have me giving my pass decision another look, if there were coins in this set that I didn’t already have in my collection. But that’s not the case, so…
My sentiments exactly.
Spot on.
The coins in the set will bring a premium. Your won’t because they didn’t come out of this set. Only 50000 made. Coins are always worth more when they come out of this sets. Especially if u have then graded.
I must say that the logic of and the rationale for that totally escapes me, RoyJRobinette. It makes about the same amount of sense to me as valuing an identical Proof American Silver Eagle extricated from a Congratulations Set above an individual encapsulated Proof ASE. After all, it’s not like either one of the examples in question is the coin equivalent of a “game worn” jersey, for example. I understand the concept of “provenance”, but for my money a boxed presentation or a card enclosure do not meet the requirements to qualify as provenance.
I haven’t collected any of the quarters. I got the other proof sets earlier, so presume I have the whole collection. No exclusive ase or other coin that I can think of in the set like last year’s 2 silver eagles. So did I miss something? Is there a rare or special coin not released this year? My guess is no. Seems expensive
D n C — I hear ya. But it’s only money. My Mint orders mirror my Insurance. If I get it I don’t need it.

Mike, I forgot what the search term is after doing the view page source etc. for finding out the amount available. Data and something else.
Thanks
EC Guru, its data-available.
data-available
Dear Guru —
Yeh, that is a nifty tool.
Just as a reminder, Right Click your mouse and hit Reload (so you know you will be getting the latest number). Then Right Click the “View Page Source”. When it comes up do an “Alt F” and type “data-avalable” into the search criteria. And VIOLA! It will tell you how many are left.
I just did it again, just for you … and as of 9:39 Pacific Time there are 33561 available.
Good Hunting — Mike

Thanks again everyone. I had it in my mind that it was back slash or forward slash. Obviously, neither worked.
Thanks again!!
All around a pretty nifty numbers checking function, and fun!
Mike Hunt,
I loved your analogy of the Mint Orders = Insurance rationale. Just perfect!
Kaiser — I truly enjoy hearing your retorts, especially as it relates to you being there to make them! At our age, one reads the Obituaries and feels they are healthy if they don’t see their names! As for me, I enjoy reading your insightful and mostly somewhat abrasive insights to know that you are still alive and kicking some somewhat abrasive sh_t at me. I truly appreciate you kicking some sense into my otherwise Polyanna attitude towards the Mint. Re the Mint’s now-becoming expected annual sets that are only for “collectors”, I am fast-re-examining what-the-F- I am doing on… Read more »
I have to say, Mike, that I enjoy your delightfully straightforward and deliberately no-nonsense comments at least as much as you say you enjoy mine! I know that whenever I spot your “byline” on a comment that I will be treated to something that is at the very least just a bit off the average beaten path and which, believe me, turns out to be a real treat and a joy to read, and subsequently at least most often if not in fact always, react and respond to. My feelings of mortality have indeed taken another huge step down the… Read more »
Condolences to you, your wife & your family. I am with you regarding the quandaries of paragraph #3. I used to collect records as well as coins until a couple of years ago. But it finally became more of a burden than a joy. I still have it (#1 singles from 1960 to 2020 and #1 albums from 1980 to 2020). It is now frozen in time … complete, yet incomplete. Sometimes I look at it with pride; most times I pay little to no attention to it. I remember as a young man wondering why in the world an… Read more »
Thank you, REB, from the bottom of my heart for your kind and thoughtful words; they are very much appreciated, my friend. Much as you have clearly related to my thoughts regarding collecting at our age so as well have your ideas on the subject resonated with me. While I still value, even cherish my coin collection as much as ever, the thought of not having it anymore is one that doesn’t in any way tend to strike me as disastrous. I stopped collecting stamps, with the exception of First Day Covers, decades ago and I have never regretted doing… Read more »
It is pricey for what you get, and what you get isn’t worth the price, so no go for me.
The S.L.E. Mint Set with the two types of ASEs was a “must have” for me; very special.
The 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set was the must have for me. I have it and so my list is complete, until next year. 😉
Antonio: As much as I love the Morgans and Peace, I agree that this was the set to snag.
I ordered a single set successfully — Mike
Congrats, Mike Hunt!
Looks like for double the money of the silver proof you get this set minus Sacajewia and nickel. Which is still available. Oh. This set has ase . But all are S mint. I believe I got the s ase earlier. Hard to keep track now. Probably should print my receipts and tracking emails and start a spreadsheet. I think I missed 1 ase this year. Seems all the coins that rocket in price I can never add to cart.
A spread sheet is a smart move. I just looked earlier and had seen that I had a dozen 2022 proof S mint ASE’s.
For some reason, there isn’t the demand for the S’s as there are for the W’s.
i see the american liberty coin that sold out/ unavailable on the first day later appeared as available. as i checked today, there seems to be about 25% left of the 75,000 made. there are just over 35,000 of the limited edition sets avail as of now, but i wonder how many will be returned. i think last year many complained of the holders and visible defects.for $600 or 3 easy payments of $200, good ole mike will sell ya a ngc graded 70 set with jones autograph. i can hear him yammering now. think i will save some coin… Read more »
I never thought about a King Charles coin. Thanks for a heads up. Not a fan of him but a coin is a coin.
If the Royal Mint is sharp and up to snuff the King William patterns should be coming off the presses right about now. Caffeine Mike will be hawking them asap.
I don’t think it should matter to Caffeine Mike “Have I Got A Deal For You” Mezack that for anyone to be on a U.S coin they have to be deceased; he should still go about getting afterlife autographs on all the slabs and selling them for thousands!
Oh, he’s still very much alive and kicking, even in his 90s.
Oh, he’s still very much alive and kicking, even in his 90s.
I already ordered mine and am waiting for them to arrive.
Would like to see, in the weekly mint sales article, a totaling of the 40 bulk silver eagles sold, so I don’t have to calculate. A third line added to the article equaling 40 bulk and single sales totaled would be great , thanks, fnytode
These come from the Mint’s website.
Debating myself if I should get this set. I find the quarters uninspiring designs. If I were to get the set, I would probably turn all five quarters heads up to see the Washington portrait, which is well done.
Hard Pass, Ugly quarters!!!! OUCH!!!! RUN FORREST RUN>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
sam I am tweedy, I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t hurt yourself nearly half as much if you weren’t always trying to catch up with fleet-footed Forrest.
Life is like a box of chocolates.
No one can catch the “GUMPER” RUN FORREST RUN>>>>>>>>>>FAR FAR AWAY FROM THE US MINT!!!!!
I bought this set. Hell, I buy almost everything the Mint puts out. It’s a sickness. $201 for 2.5ozt is ridiculous, though.
They aren’t selling very well at all. Sign of the times, I guess.
Perhaps, Uncle Chop, but isn’t it a fun sickness to have?
I was going to pass on this also. But then I thought I’ve been getting the Limited Edition set since it started so why break the string?
Was kinda surprised it was still available at 12:45. guess it’s not that popular for this year.
Really the only reason to get this set is if someone missed out on the ASE-s mint dollar…….its the “cookie” they dangle to draw you into buying it.
Understand, Carl. If you have all the LESPS sets from 2012 through 2021, you have to get this set for completeness. The 2017 LESPS was a special one as it had the first S mint ASE Proof and the 2021 set was very special in that it contained two ASE Proof coins for the first time, featuring the last year of issue of the old “Heraldic Eagle” Type 1 design and the first year of issue of the new “Flying Eagle” Type 2 design.
Saw this while logged in the Mint site
I noticed the same thing last year.
You log into the mint web site. you see the current and prior year product. then when you go into the current year, next year schedule ‘magically’ appears. I suspect it happened late Oct last year as well.
My guess is the government year begins October so once budget is approved then it decides what the mint can sell. I think they show 3 years from October to about March then it shows the previous and current year
Sounds about right, Dazed and Coinfused. And then there’s the option of checking on what’s still available from previous years by entering the year into the Search Box in the upper right hand corner of the Mint’s homepage.
Already added my Remind Me for the coins/sets I’m interested in which I didn’t think there would be a mad rush for. Those I thought would be, I’ve already subscribed for. Thanks to CoinNews for the heads up.
I have said before, that I’m not smart enough to collect coins, so many different countries, types, denominations, mint locations, and hard to remember key dates and signs to look for. (Thanks combat PTSD) also most still in the brown box. Good example was the palladium. First issue date I was recovering from kidney stone removal (I highly recommend against getting stones, they fricking hurt, especially around 7 to 9mm) and it got crazy expensive to buy it and I think I got others after except for the reverse proof (I think) which sold quickly and skyrocketed out of affordability.… Read more »
What triggered it, comments on kitco or marketwatch , over the years seems to indicate gold and silver crash on strong dollar, but seems that even weak dollar crushes it. Supposed go be an inflation hedge, however since inflation has skyrocketed, it’s lost $400, or roughly 20%. I know it is claimed to be manipulated by paper etc but still, seems like nothing is bailing it out.
Sorry to hear about your PTSD, Dazed and Coinfused, as I am all too familiar with that territory. The recurrent episodes never stop, and they are particularly nasty.
Possible investments: real estate and stocks, usually; coins, not really; gambling, never.
All of them are gambling, Dazed and Coinfused. Which do you already know the best or which one do you want to learn about most? I have never expected to get wealthy off my coins, though people do make a living off of buying and selling coins. I always looked at them as saving my money (for a future emergency, I suppose) because I expect I would get the amount I paid or possibly more when I eventually sold them. Maybe I am right, maybe I am wrong. Looks like I am ahead currently but that could change by the… Read more »
Jeff, Thanks for the detailed info. Very insightful and much of it was along the lines of what I was thinking, but fear to pull trigger. Never had 401k. Dug many holes when younger and took a long time to crawl out. But I did get Ira and money market. Not a lot of cash to fund it, but I try as much as I can. Have even debated selling my coins to help max it. I tried crypto but got scammed with spoof email and they took me to cleaners and even bought more using my card on file… Read more »
Jeff, “Wow!” Thanks for sharing your “old man” experience and advice on finance and investment.
Hahaha, thanks Rich! I wrote another long one (my longest ever. Sorry everyone) in response to Dazed and Coinfused but who knows if anyone will see it. It says waiting for approval. I had one they never approved some months ago. They never told me why. The people who run this site sure do take a hands off approach, don’t they?
The new 2023 Product Schedule is out and in general it is a little lackluster, with the exception of the 2023 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. The 2023 Morgan and Peace Dollar Uncirculated coins will be released sometime in Summer 2023 and the Proof coins will be released sometime during Fall 2023. Of note is the very late release date of February 28, 2023 for the 2023-W American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin and Congratulations Set. Also worth noting is the absence of any Commemorative Program coins. But, the schedule has plenty of American Innovation Dollars and American Women… Read more »
Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like my coin year starts February 23rd.
I have yet to figure out, Good Sir Rich, what makes the Congratulations Set a “set”.
A good and funny question.
Why thank you, REB, but I have the sneaky suspicion this just happens to be a good and funny joke (for them) that the Mint has been playing on us.
A set is the mathematical model for a collection of different things; a set contains elements or members, which can be mathematical objects of any kind. Glad you asked. 🙂
I’m always happy to launch an inquiry, Antonio, because Zeus knows that at my age so much is a mystery and darned if I don’t need some answers!
Aside from my rant, I get it now; the coin and its holder constitute a Set.
I thought set meant at least 2. A collection of different things? Hmmm seems like it’s the same coin each time. It does contain elements as silver is an element. Members. Well I don’t think it is a Sam’s club, or ,BJ’s (not the s3x thing the wholesale store… also whole sale, not H0sale) or Costco. And I don’t see how they could fit a member inside one of those coins (especially if it’s from a black dude, as rumor has it they all have huge members. Unless, it is the Kim Jong member, but that would severely limit the… Read more »
As of 7:15PM EST, there are still almost 29,000 available. Easy pass for me.
I believe that this set has not sold out because of two reasons, price and only one per customer. In my opinion, it should have been two sets per customer due to the price.
It has not sold out. I thought tomorrow was the day for Battle Bot, Just order my set 6 minutes ago. Have already received my order acknowledgement email. Maybe I need to get confused and have another senior moment when ordering from the USM
JWP, I don’t know about you, but I find myself called upon to expend the barest minimum of effort in order to achieve a state of total and utter confusion.
Rudy, I’m not sure how increasing the Household Order Limit from 1 to 2 for the Limited Edition Silver Proof Set would improve its sales performance. If buyers are already shying away from the single price what would motivate them to shell out twice the amount for two? Even the assorted resellers out there likely wouldn’t bite since they can see that this item is not by any means a hot seller that they could profit on.
What I meant to say was that there has to be some buyers of the Limited Edition Silver Set who would buy two. How many, I have no idea, but that would have made the sales look better. At this rate, I’m not sure that there will be a sell out.
I have bought single and multiples of limited edition silver sets in prior years. This set however doesn’t spark enough interest at least for myself. I was on the fence but just couldn’t do it. If I had all the prior years then it would be a game changer and I would be a buyer.
I suppose some people might want to give them as gifts; makes sense to me.
Hi Rudy
I am changing my orders next year. I am dropping the silver proof set and the ‘S’ silver eagle. I will buy the limited edition set even though it cost a little more and is not a subscription. I am not a reseller but a collector. I suspect this years set will be gone by 12:10 today when the HOL drops off thanks to caffeine Mike and his peers. We all need to remember that silver is around $20 an ounce, and coin/bullion producers and resellers, including the mint see us as a cash cow.
I actually considered going the other way today based on the comments above. Can you remind me how each coin comes in the silver proof set, are they all in capsules or one big rectangular capsule, or a combination of both?
Two (three? I am going off memory here. More than one, anyway. Think it is two) big rectangular capsules. Comes apart in 2 halves if you want to remove the coins. Unless they changed that recently. The last time I split one apart was the 2014 set. Still the big rectangular capsules, though.
I’m only getting the silver AWQ set, ASEs and Morgan and Peace dollars. I don’t fiddle with base metals anymore except for my collections from circulation. I suppose one day I’ll sell all my coins and stamps to supplement my retirement, which won’t be until I’m in my 70s.
Oh you gosh darn youngsters says the old fart who’s passed half way to 80.
Antonio, from my over twenty years experience of it already just a word to the wise; even though for practical purposes Social Security isn’t in and of itself sufficient for retirement, life without its help is essentially impossible.
Hello Allan
I believe that there will be more of us who will do the same. I bought the set to continue to have a complete set and have to skip a year. As of 7:31 (CST), no sell out.
As of today (10/27/2022) at 7PM EST there are still 21,125 remaining.
CW —
And as of 8:35 Pacific Time the 20415 with dust on them are still flying out the door!
— Mike
Just delivered today, and 40% more to go.
An idea, next year, add the Morgan and Peace dollars to the set.
Perfect!
Oh, wait a minute…only if there’s enough silver left over from bullion minting! 😉
5 days later and still 18,800 left as of 2:11PST….why is that not a surprise to me.
Still over 18,000 of this set are available.
Christopher Williams & Domenic Vaiasicca, it seems that sometimes the Mint just doesn’t get it. One can’t sell the same merchandise twice in one year and expect people to buy it again after the price has been raised considerably but with no added value.
Why not? Apple does it all the time and they charge over a thousand for it.
I had a pet rock once, named it Stoney. He was from Boulder Colorado. He died years ago, he and I were crushed
Ah yes, Dazed and Coinfused, but you were reborn to rock and roll again.
The packaging for this year’s edition is very poor. Not special in any way.
Honestly, David, in the years that I’ve been getting the Limited Edition Silver Proof Set from the Mint I’ve never seen it come packaged in any other way than cheap, but since I didn’t order this year’s version for all I know the current presentation is even worse.
