The United States Mint today will begin selling rolls, bags and boxes of George H.W. Bush Presidential $1 Coins

The dollars are struck in an uncirculated collector finish and available in rolls, bags and boxes. Each features an obverse (heads side) portrait honoring the 41st President of the United States.

This coin continues the Mint’s Presidential $1 Coin Program which debuted in 2007. The program saw four issues annually honoring former Presidents of the United States in the order in which they served. The last President to be honored in the series was Ronald Reagan in 2016.

George Herbert Walker Bush was born June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts. He served in the Navy as a pilot during World War II before graduating from Yale with a degree in economics. His public service record includes being a member of Congress, Ambassador to the United Nations, and the Director of Central Intelligence. He also served as Vice President of the United States from 1981-1989 under Ronald Reagan before winning the position of commander in chief from 1989-1993.

George H.W. Bush passed away on November 30, 2018, at the age of 94. His inclusion as part of the Presidential $1 Coin series was allowed through the passage of the President George H.W. Bush and First Spouse Barbara Bush Coin Act (Public Law 116-112).

George H.W. Bush Coin Designs and Specifications

The dollar portrait design was selected from among several candidates. It offers a right-facing portrait of Bush as designed by Elana Hagler and sculpted by Joseph Menna.

Inscribed around the likeness is "GEORGE H. W. BUSH," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "41st PRESIDENT," and "1989-1993."

Like other coins in the series, the reverse (tails side) offers an image of the Statue of Liberty as created and sculpted by Don Everhart. Inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "$1."

Reverses of Presidential $1 Coins
Reverses of all Presidential dollars feature the Statue of Liberty with surrounding inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1. They also share edge letterings of E PLURIBUS UNUM, the year of issue, and a mint mark denoting where they were made.

On the edge, we find inscriptions of the year, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and mint mark.

Each coin has a composition of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel with a weight of 8.1 grams, a diameter of 26.49 mm, or 1.043 inches, and a thickness of 2.0 mm.

No proof??

Justin

That’s what I’m wondering. There must be a proof coin coming.

Justin

It’s possible because of the Covid situation that they will either be delayed or will be part of the yearly coin set next year as an add on possibly. However thisnseems unlikely as it is a 2020 coin and wouldn’t fit with 2021 coins.
If I had to guess I would assume it would be a release like what they did with the SBA proof dollar in its 1999 release.

Tom

under 2021 product schedule there is scheduled a 2020 George Bush Coin and Chronicles Set. (The 2021 product schedule doesn’t show from the tool bar initially, but if you select 2020 product schedule then “magically” you can now select 2021 schedule.)
The set is the first item that shows under TBD

George H.W. Bush saw active service in the Army Air Corps during WWII and became a highly decorated aviator. His son George W. Bush, on the other hand, served in the Texas Air National Guard.

Notice that the Barbara Bush $10 First Spouse gold coins are $75 less each (Proof & Unc.) than the issue prices! Gold has really dropped off recently.

AND in 2020 there was supposed to be a Native American Coin and Currency set issued also. It was not until after mid July at a time we were well into the pandemic that is was dropped from the 2020 schedule without any, Zero reason given, it just disappeared. That is the U.S. Mint’s Marketing modus operandi of keeping customers informed.

Chris

Looking at the 2021 line up don’t see the Morgan or peace dollar 100th Anniversary. I guess it was scratched. Speaking of the Golden dollar there was talk of a gold anniversary coin to made that’s gone too.

Legislation is required for there to be SILVER Morgan or Peace dollars. The House has passed legislation, the Senate has not. IF not passed in 2020, the legislation will have to be resubmitted in 2021…

Except the Mint could issue it as a bullion piece. But the ANA would get no benefit if it did, whereas under the legislation it would get surcharges if it was a commemorative.

Lol and the mints original release date of the v75 was months before they could convince everyone to wear a mask at will. You sheep. I collect and I thank you.

Chas. Barber

Hopefully u no collect C19 skip the mask next time for your surgery as well…..

Jake

Thankfully my grandmother taught me about germs and viruses. I try not to get political but this whole virus was a total ploy to fix our vote from 2016. Its ok I can play world pandemic and mask up when requested. PS my dentist made me sign a form that I can not wear a mask haha yeah ok sure please and thank you.

Chas. Barber

No loss, they can’t get the $1 bill in the holder straight, last one all 10 had to be ret’d they sucked, no quality control @ mint except for coins going to TV starz

Jake

I have incorrectly placed 1$ Bill’s and I kept them and re ordered.
