Honoring the 41st President of the United States and his wife, the U.S. Mint at noon ET releases the George Herbert Walker Bush Coin & Chronicles Set.
Found within the set are a uniquely minted coin, two medals — one in an ounce of .999 fine silver, a U.S. postage stamp and a biographical booklet. The set comes at a price of $120 with a product limit of 35,000.
"This elegant set makes a unique and memorable gift — perfect for coin and Presidential memorabilia collectors, history buffs, students, or anyone who admires or has an interest in the former President and First Lady," the U.S. Mint notes.
Specifically, the George H.W. Bush Coin & Chronicles Set holds these five items:
- One 2020-S Reverse Proof George H.W. Bush Presidential $1 Coin
- One George H.W. Bush Presidential Silver Medal
- One Barbara Bush First Spouse Bronze Medal
- One U.S. postage stamp issued in 2019 to honor President Bush
- One 20-page biographical booklet that includes images from the life of Bush and his presidency
Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the reverse proof coin and the silver medal are exclusive to this set.
The $1 coin has another unique aspect in that it features polished, mirror-like design elements that attractively contrast against frosted backgrounds (opposite of a regular proof coin).
Of note, the Mint released an uncirculated version of this same coin in 2020 as a part of its Presidential $1 Coin Program.
Selected from among 11 design candidates, its right-facing portrait was designed by Elana Hagler and sculpted by Joseph Menna. Inscribed around the likeness is "GEORGE H.W. BUSH," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "41st PRESIDENT" and "1989-1993."
As for the $1 coin’s reverse (tails side), it depicts the Statue of Liberty as designed and sculpted by Don Everhart. Encircling inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "$1."
Edge-incused inscriptions are "2020," "S" for the mint mark, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
Designed and engraved by John Mercanti, the obverse side of the Presidential Silver Medal offers another portrait of Bush with the White House in the background and "GEORGE BUSH" inscribed on the upper left.
The silver medal’s reverse, created and engraved by Chester Martin, shows a version of the Presidential Seal, flanked by draped, burning torches of liberty. An inscription at the top reads: "OUR TIME IS A TIME OF HISTORIC CHANGE, WHEN MEN AND NATIONS CAN TRANSFORM HISTORY." An inscription of "INAUGURATED JANUARY 20, 1989" is centered below.
As for the bronze medal, it bears the same basic imagery as the Barbara Bush First Spouse Gold Coins issued earlier in her honor. This includes a portrait of Ms. Bush that was designed by Benjamin Sowards and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. Added inscriptions are "BARBARA BUSH," "41st" and "1989-1993."
Designed by Barbara Fox and sculpted by John P. McGraw, the medal’s reverse shows a person reading a book with an open road before them, symbolizing literacy, knowledge, and life’s journey. A depiction of the sun appears above, representing the promise of a brighter future.
The medal is struck at the Philadelphia Mint but does not carry a "P" mint mark. It features a 1 5/16-inch diameter and a composition of 95% copper and 5% zinc.

No Fraternity Boy Coin from G W B???? He He He He !!!!!!
It’s so obvious, it’s all George Bush’s fault. I’m still collecting one of everything 🙂 Hey has everyone been circumcised yet?
Mr. ‘No New Taxes’
Liar!
Seems very pricey. This is much higher than the previous Presidential Coin & Chronical sets. The last one was Reagan, priced at $69. That was 5 years ago, and the mintage limit was 150,000. So who know. Just my opinion.
I really like the reverse of the Barbara Bush medal, and what it stands for.
Yeah, like right out of Timbuk 3 – the future’s so bright I gotta wear shades.
As much as I like this series of silver medals and reverse proof dollars I am passing on this due to the price.
You and me, brother! I paid $57 or so for the first few sets and the only coin I would want is the Reverse Proof Presidential dollar. But not at $120! I think the mint has gone nuts with their pricing.
Exactly!
Rooster — Even though I am actually with you on this one, I ordered it anyway … for the following reasons: Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the reverse proof coin and the silver medal are exclusive to this set. I happen to have liked Bush I thought it would be a great bookend to my Reagan C&C one I know I can return it if I have buyer’s remorse And the REAL reason: I wanted to see if the Mint’s ordering system would give me the same hassle as it did for ALL the other really important coins. With… Read more »
Mike, I like the way you are thinking putting this up with the Reagan set. Guess I got spoiled early on with the lower prices. Price was my only reason for not ordering this.
Rooster’
Price is a pretty good reason for either buying a product or not. If it was priced somewhere in the vicinity of these previous sets, I’d be in. Sometimes you just have to ‘draw a red line in the sand’ and..oh wait, that’s from a different president!
Peace is priceless. Where is your papers!? Show us your papers! Oh wait! We are not Nazi Germany 🙂
Kaiser, I share your thoughts and concerns as expressed about the Mints recent pricing of their products.I had already started scaling back on my purchases from them last year due to their obscene pricing. At these current prices, I won’t be buying the AGE’s and will instead focus on the SAE’s. I’m not planning on abandoning my hobby, but scaling back most definitely. This year was an anomaly, due to all the design changes, and while I’m happy with the coins I’ve purchased, I’m glad it’s almost over ( the buying of coins, not the actual year, as I love… Read more »
Kaiser — No problem. It’s just that you seem to have a fascinating combination of reality mixed with an “I don’t give a fat rat’s you-know-what” attitude … tempered with experience backed by insight and a sharp tongue. And I hear you re Christmas is coming and lots of kids (and better yet GRAND KIDS) you want to please. I only have 2 kids (with one of them being a devout bachelor) and one grandson. (But if you have only one, this was the one to have.) All that said, I think I am fast-approaching the end of allowing the… Read more »
Very pricy. If it was $80-$90 I would’ve considered it.
Kaiser, At $80 I too, would consider buying the set. Personally, I don’t put much stock in commemorative pieces or medals. If someone likes the appearance of them that’s fine, but for me they aren’t coins and as such holds little value. The only silver in this set is the Presidential medal and I’m certainly not paying the Mint $60 or $70 for that coin. Especially since I’ve purchased roughly 40 Silver coins this year from the mint, included in that total are the Morgans and Peace Dollars. By the way Kaiser, that third order of the 3 2021 W… Read more »
Done at 12:00:50. I guess I had no competition for this one. It’s too expensive, but I really like the series.
Not for $120.00.
RP70 Bush dollar will be worth a lot, but I can’t buy the otherwise useless set for $120.
15 minutes in there was about 30,400 remaining. This may sit a bit.
Can you send me a link where I can look this up? Thanks.
Right click the product page and click “view source code” or whatever your browser says along those lines. Then CTRL +F and type in “data-available” (without quotes) and the number to the right of it is the quantity remaining.
There have been Youtube videos showing this trick.
Does that also work for those of us using an iMac computer?
Don’t know if it works on Safari browser (no reason it shouldn’t), but can download Chrome if necessary.
At one time I owned every Coin & Chronicles set but I sold all of them. I must admit, that if I still owned the complete set, I would have purchased today’s offering. It is a nice set, but not for $120.00.
Yeah big fan of all the coin and Chronicles sets. One of the only reasons for buying this set
pass…..to expensive for what it is
This set is cursed not only by the fact it’s George Bush and they want $120.00 for a $1 coin but because the dealers got all of the previous sets and marked the prices up so high that collector’s like myself just removed them from consideration of our coin collections but don’t be surprised if some dealer tries to pull the scarcity scam some time down the road. I noticed the dealers have been laying low since I asked all the disappointed coin collector’s to file Attorney General and OIG complaints if we ever want to get justice and speaking… Read more »
SENZA —
I agree with most of your assertions. And 2 things you are NEVER supposed to debate is Religion and Politics. That said, either George Bush (Sr. or Jr.) appear as Saints compared … using any metric … on the current administration. Please don’t reply otherwise as it will undermine the believability of any of your other well-based contentions.
Wow. I can’t believe it! I just mixed both Religion AND Politics into the same discussion!
— Mike
Huh!
Ordering this set was reminiscent of the “good old days” when I was able to purchase any coin that I wanted from the Mint via mail order or phone. I even remember Sears and Roebuck having Mint Sets for sale at the exact same price. I logged onto the site after waiting for browser authentication at around 11:56 and placed my order for the Bush Coin at 12:00 noon and at 12:01 my purchase was completed. Not a hiccup along the way. What a calm peaceful relaxing experience that was, compared to Monday the 13th. So sad that we have… Read more »
I got it only for the reverse proof coin. Have to keep the reverse proof sets updated. Price was too high, but I got one anyway. Cant wait to see it when it arrives on Monday or Tuesday.
Yes Sir Kaiser, Me Too# With that release on November 14, 2019, so began the US Mint’s version of “Mr. Ryder’s Wild Ride.” Of course we could not be allowed to purchase online one of those instant rarities for $69.95 with a limited mintage of 30,000, destined to immediately fetch over $1,000 in the secondary market. Like George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
Kaiser — I was about to offer you one of mine as those were in the days when I used to order more than one if it was possible. UNFORTUNATELY, I was only able to get one. And then, just for fun, I took a look on eBay to see what they are going for. OUCH !!! $1200 or more !!! Sorry buddy. Do you need a 2021 Peace Dollar? I actually ended up scheduled to get more than one due to the Mint’s “whoops I didn’t realize I had already confirmed one for you” errors. Just as an Editorial… Read more »
I can’t wait to see the fallout on this site when the 45th Presidential Coin and Medal set is released.
Just got an email about this product with the following header:
A Thousand Points of Light in One Elegant Package
Rooster, you made Homey smile(:
Just checked this still has not sold out – kinda sad when the Big Boys (US Mint) start price gouging and acting like flippers.
Noting the rules about Politics and Religion, this is a Political coin and this is the Bush who started the wars were are still fighting today and over Oil – so this guy is very unpopular and of course “Read My Lips – No New Taxes” I think Liar and Chief was coined from his Presidency then his son carried on the tradition with “Weapons of Mass Destruction” that should sum it up.
Best Regards
NGC now offering a special label for graded Bush coins at a mere $12 per coin plus shipping and handling and anything else the graders want you to pay for and you must send them your coins in the unopened US Mint box. I think they wanted Blood, Urine and Stool samples too but just send a pair your unwashed underwear should cover all 3 requirements. What would we do without price gouging middlemen and their greedy tactics.
Hey guys & gals we did it my prediction has come true US Mint Director to be replaced effective October 1st
I just got the email from the Mint honoring the former 1st Couple. The timing couldn’t be better with Biden parroting the helm so you can get the set if you file it under a New World Order.
